Reason #1062 why I launched www.LoveToBeCatholic.com:
Do you want a shock. Try this. Go to GodTube and click on the Catholic Denomination link for the Catholic Channel; You'll be surprised what awaits you. Today (October 27), three of the first six videos listed are overtly anti-catholic. Two of these videos proclaim that Padre Pio "Is Exposed As A Fake!." In the third, two guys read from the Catholic Catechism and criticize it as they do so. These three videos are posted by a someone from a web site called Ex Catholics For Jesus.
The problem with both YouTube and GodTube is that videos with anti-Catholic messages, soft porn, crude and trashing behavior can be, and often are listed as Catholic content. Go to YouTube and search on the word Catholic and you will find a video of a young woman lip syncing to a rap song about oral sex. Click on the Catholic Channel on GodTube and you find videos from ex-catholics-for-Jesus criticizing the Catholic Faith. How does this happen? Without getting too technical here's how it works. When someone uploads a video, they will also include descriptive words, called tags. These tags enable a web site to classify the video so that other users can easily find it. However tags are often used to deceive people as well. It is a way to lure otherwise unsuspecting people into a trap. For example, those searching for Catholic videos may instead end up viewing anti-Catholic messages or soft porn.
Neither YouTube nor GodTube do much in the way of screening videos. I am not criticizing either web site for this. They are not set up for that function. Keep in mind that they both serve as a platform for free speech. I believe in dialog and debate. But I consider it a deceitful practice to tag a video as Catholic when it is anything but that. The inablility of these two web sites to filter or edit content is just one of a dozen reasons why I launched www.LoveToBeCatholic.com.
Here is an example of what is featured today on GodTube's Catholic Church Channel. You tell me, is this what you expect to here from your good priest this Sunday?:
Post Script: Several readers and www.LoveToBeCatholic.com members have posted videos to drive this off of the first page of GodTube's the Catholic Channel. That's the good 'ol proliferation strategy used by breakfast cereal manufacturers to keep new products off shelves at grocery stores. Don't like it in my local grocery store, but happy that the strategy is being applied here. Thanks.
